Meret Oppenheim

LINN LÜHN

Info: Meret Oppenheim (1913–1985) is undoubtedly one of the most significant artists of the twentieth century. She painted and drew, worked with sculpture, created design and fashion objects, wrote poetry, designed stage sets and jewellery, and worked as a photographer and model. While she is currently regarded by many as a prominent example of (French) Surrealism, she eludes stylistic classification and cannot be reduced to any predictable lines of artistic development. Oppenheim resisted dominant opinions, genre boundaries, and fixed ideas about artistic creation. (…) Linn Lühn is delighted to be able to present a selection of works as part of DC Open 2025. In addition to drawings, gouaches and coloured pencil sketches, the exhibition features the poetic series Parapapillonneries (1976). Six colour lithographs depict the story of a butterfly’s creation in encrypted sequences, like scenes from a film playing out in the imagination. (…) Opening on the occasion of DC Open.
