Nadezhda Georgieva

Info: Nadezhda Georgieva (b. 1973 in Sofia, BG), a self-taught multimedia artist, has never confined herself to one artistic discipline, genre, or medium; instead, she enters into a layered relationship: with herself, with her creativity, with materials that refuse to be mere means to an end. Clay, glaze, wood, metal, linen, wool, ink, charcoal, acrylics – substances that do not illustrate, but challenge each other into new forms of existence. Ascension Unbound explores the duality of groundedness and emergence. On the one hand, her work reflects her own story of becoming an artist, a somewhat unusual path to self-discovery that brought with it many unexpected twists and turns, rooted in lived experiences and the burning flame of creative expression. At the same time, her work is an invitation. To contemplate, to seek out friction, to push for one’s innermost truths. Together, the multimedia sculptures reveal a process sustained by continuity, interdependence and devotion. Becoming an artist does not mean finding a form, but constantly surrendering one’s own authority in dialogue with the material. This exhibition does not show what art is. It shows what happens when one decides to stop avoiding it. (…)
