Summer Thrown Ropes

Gaa Gallery

Peter Hutchinson

Info: Gaa is pleased to present Peter Hutchinson. Summer Thrown Ropes, opening with a reception on Wednesday, July 23 from 6 to 9 pm in Cologne. A trailblazer in both Narrative Art and the Earth and Land Art movements of the 1960s and 1970s, Peter Hutchinson consistently examined the complex and intertwined relationship between nature and language across his extensive career. Driven by his passion for the natural world and horticulture, Hutchinson embarked on a lifelong investigation of the landscape around him. Utilizing materials including photographs, collages, and written text, Hutchinson crafted a uniquely personal and innovative narrative environment. Gaa is delighted to show this compelling selection of works by the artist together in Cologne. Peter Hutchinson (London 1930–2025 Provincetown) lived and worked in Provincetown, MA, where for over 55 years he created work comprised of photographs, collage, and text that together yield new narrative space. Hutchinson was a pivotal figure in the Narrative Art and Land Art movements of the 1960s and 70s, and he was a master gardener and process photographer, creating work that explores the layered, interrelated qualities of nature and language.
