Info: Over the past year and a half, we have closely followed Andreas Steinbrecher’s (*1984) artistic development, observing the evolution of his creative strategies. Central to his practice is the constant reflection on the relationship between the artist’s hand and the support, a fundamental aspect of his work. This exploration of the line—a motif deeply rooted in the history of painting—continually re-emerges in Andreas’ work, driving the development of his pictorial language. What distinguishes Andreas Steinbrecher approach is the agility and flexibility with which he investigates new possibilities in his search for the stroke. Few artists are willing to challenge and transform such an essential element of their artistic identity. His recent work Ruf der Trompeten reveals this bold evolution. Andreas’ innovation is determined by an earlier mastery of the stroke that allowed him to develop a soft, warm, pictorial membrane on the canvas, to move on to a stroke that expands the canvas introducing a dynamic energy that transcends the two-dimensional space of the support.
