Satoshi Kojima
Info: Kojima moved from his native Japan to Germany in 2003 and received his Meisterschüler (MA) at the Kunst Akademie Düsseldorf under Peter Doig . Throughout his career, he has exhibited his work internationally at Bridget Donahue in New York (Satoshi Kojima 2017, Akashic Records 2021), Tramps in London/New York (Delicate Boss 2017, Chaste As Ice Pure As Snow 2019) and recently Art Basel Statements 2023 and Satoshi Kojima & Sam Contis at Sunset Court with Qrystal Partners, in Los Angeles. Kojima’s previous works were characterized by a soft-hued palette that combined distinctive geometric shapes (reminiscent of Op Art) with a peculiar humor and solitary figures of nightlife and urban dwellers. The new series Underground, which began at the end of 2023, highlights a contrast between desolation and glamour, with Kojima’s signature muted palette portraying decayed subway stations and projected images of former movie stars on walls. This is a new phase in Kojima’s artistic journey. (…) Location: Albertusstr. 9–11, 50667 Cologne.
