I Can’t Unsee

Info: We are delighted to be opening I Can’t Unsee, Jagoda Bednarsky’s first solo-show with the gallery, during this year’s DC Open weekend. The artist spent the last few months diving deep into a free, light and enchanting way of painting. As much as it‘s important what one sees on the painting, for me the way she paints, the tender, flowing, spreading paint, the soft, beautiful, yet slightly off colors are of as much importance. I think Jagoda could paint anything with that subtle touch of her hand, to create her large, sometimes dreamy, always bold landscape paintings with mountains sporting nipples. Some of the new paintings remind me of science fiction, of unknown planets and interstellar landscapes. Those breast-mountains are mighty, but they are not sexy or provocative. They are not there to be desired or used. They rather evoce a longing for a better place, more caring, more nurturing, more feminine. I celebrate Jagoda for her skill and her sensitivity. A rare thing when combined.
