The Waiting Game
Parmen Daushvili
Info: Parmen Daushvili (b. 1970 in Tbilisi, GE) presents his first solo exhibition, The Waiting Game, with Ruttkowski;68 in Düsseldorf. His painterly practice evokes feelings of uneasy domesticity and the precarious relationship that his figures have to their surroundings. Daushvili employs an eerie sense of place across his canvasses often painted through the oblique light of his home and studio. Whilst the viewer may form an emotive attachment with the figures that inhabit Daushvili’s universe, he, in turn, pays them little attention. Often the unwitting sitter, or parts of them, are used as mere objects, sometimes remaining unchanged, but frequently reworked and over-painted depending on his changing relationship to the sitter. This relationship also applies to his interiors, which are also cannibalised across several works through his ongoing painting sequences. Daushvili’s pictures are often subjected to ruthless reworking, creating surfaces held in suspense. (…)
