Info: Film-Screening im Rahmen der Ausstellung Towards the City von Katja Stuke, Oliver Sieber und Ryudai Takano bei DFI e.V.: »Los Angeles, it is said, is the most photographed city in the world – but it’s one of the least photogenic. It’s not Paris or New York.« So beginnt die Stimme aus dem Off in Thom Andersens Film Los Angeles Plays Itself (2003). Die Stadt als Projektionsfläche: Hollywoods Bühne, die universelle Metropole, die im Kino aussehen kann wie Texas, die Schweiz, China oder das antike Rom. Andersen montiert Sequenzen aus ganz unterschiedlichen Filmen – von Nobody Lives Forever (1946) über Blade Runner (1982) bis The Million Dollar Hotel (2000) –, während die Stimme fortfährt: »Of course I know movies are not about places – they’re about stories. If we notice the location, we’re not really watching the movie.« Wie lenkt der gebaute Raum den fotografischen Blick – und wie beeinflusst die Fotografie das Bild der Stadt? Mit der Ausstellung Towards the City von Katja Stuke, Oliver Sieber und Ryudai Takano rückt das fotografische Bild urbaner Räume in den Mittelpunkt. In Kooperation mit der Filmwerkstatt Düsseldorf → bildet am Donnerstag, 9. Oktober 2025, die Vorführung von Los Angeles Plays Itself den Auftakt.
