Rui Suzuki

Info: Rui Suzuki’s paintings, often large-format watercolours on canvas, are the result of dynamic processes that are constantly repositioned in parts over time. Due to the fluid material, her artistic practice is characterised by her conceptual idea of the picture and the constant reaction to it during the painting process. This moment of dialogue becomes the actual principle of Rui Suzuki’s works. Lines and spots are constantly seeking their own paths, forming themselves anew and requiring the artist to constantly react and focus on the picture. As a result, Rui Suzuki’s current paintings are characterised by an all-over structure that can be recapitulated line by line, a structure that oscillates between rigour and openness. The physical presence of the canvas goes hand in hand with an almost calligraphic presence of the artist and thus corresponds to a concept of body and mind that in its unity corresponds to her ideas. (…) Joint opening with the galleries in Flingern.
