Dorota Jurczak

Info: In their stylization, Dorota Jurczak’s relief busts appear almost archaic. This effect also stems from the fact that these sculptural portraits, with their elongated necks, timeless clothing, and subtly individualized physiognomy, function as proxies: They are abstracted yet equipped with distinctive attributes. Despite their restrained self-sufficiency, they exude a subtle eloquence. One cannot shake the impression that one has encountered them somewhere in a similar form before. They hint at a nearly folkloric aesthetic, filtered through the alienated presence of advertising and comics, of everyday culture and design. However, these works lack the leveling cuteness that typically characterizes such elements, as well as any modern-looking inscriptions. The choice of classical materials and techniques, in this case, glazed ceramics, grants them a timeless yet intense presence. (…) 7:30 pm: Invited by Dorota Jurczak, Düsseldorf based artist Taka Kagitomi will perform the musical piece RINGOFVIBRATION during the opening / The show will be opening parallel to the exhibitions Justin de Verteuil. Magpie on a Morning Gallows and Till Megerle. Sprechstunde at Caprii.
